Fishing
Shieldaig Lodge truly is the perfect base for travelling fishing parties. On Shieldaig Estate the guests have the use of 26,000 acres of first class fly fishing, with salmon and sea trout fishing on Loch Badachro and the River Badachro and brown trout fishing on the famous Fairy Lochs, in fact the lodge has fishing rights in 9 major and numerous smaller lochs
Gairloch Angling Club controls the fishing on twenty five excellent other trout lochs and makes permits available to visiting anglers at very reasonable prices. £15 for a weekly permit. Enquire at local Post Office.
Good sea fishing is also available with Hebridean Whale Cruises in Gairloch.
I would recommend that anyone planning a fishing or walking trip in Scotland should equip themselves with a compass and the appropriate Ordnance Survey map. The most useful of the O.S. maps for the fisherman is the Landranger series, scale 1:50,000. For each of the lochs and rivers listed here, I have given the relevant O.S. Map number. See Ordnance Survey Maps.
